Featured Destination: Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

Beautiful, Gorgeous, Captivating! These are just a few of the adjectives that could be used to describe the city of Barcelona.

Ranked as the tenth most visited city in the world and third most visited city in Europe, with millions of visitors each year. But what makes the city so worthwhile and exotic?

For starters to explore the city walking isn't such a bad thing. But if walking is not your thing or tires you, there are many tourist buses and you could even take the metro. Whether you are walking or on the bus, let us look at some of the attractions and experiences Barcelona has to offer.

  • Admire the architecture. One of the top attractions is the exploration of Gaudí and modernism. Antoni Gaudí whose modernist architecture captures the eyes of both locals and visitors. Throughout the city are civil and religious buildings that reflect this style; such as Sagrada Família (the featured image), Park Güell, or Casa Vicens.
  • Learn the history. It is not all about the modern but much of Barcelona's history tells about the culture and heritage of the city. Visit Museu d'Historia de Barcelona (MUHBA) where the city's historical heritage has been preserved at various locations to display to the public.
  • Enjoy the cuisine. Barcelona has one of the most creative cuisines on the planet; making your fine dining experience well worth it. Restaurants like Cinc Sentits offer you a taste of Catalan cooking, and with Canadian-Catalan chef Jordi Artal in the kitchen you will enjoy local classics while adding a few personal touches.
  • Revel in the art. Listing all the galleries in the city would take days; so it is no surprise art plays such a vital part to the Barcelona experience. Admire Catalan art from the Romanesque period to the mid 20th century at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC). Smaller galleries are also worth visiting such as Palau Roberts, ADN, and Joan Prats.
  • Tan on Mediterranean sands.  Being located on the northeast coast of the Iberian Peninsula, the city faces the Mediterranean Sea. With almost over four kilometers of beaches, why not pack your bath suit and the sun cream and head there!
